Albergue Alea is a privately run pilgrim-only hostel in a converted two-storey house on the LE-142 approach to Ponferrada, open April to November, offering 18 beds across four small dorms, meals, laundry, and pet-friendly accommodation for 15 euros
Private Albergue
Albergue Alea is a small, pilgrim-only hostel on the western approach to Ponferrada, sitting along the LE-142 road that connects Molinaseca to the city. It occupies a two-storey house that was converted into a hostel when it opened in 2014, and is run by Amelia and Esperanza.
For pilgrims arriving from Molinaseca, the LE-142 is the recommended route to reach it, as it cuts distance compared to other paths into the city. The hostel is about 800 metres from the town hall, placing it in the neighbourhood of Santo Tomás de las Ollas on Ponferrada's outskirts.
The setup is simple and practical: 18 beds spread across four dormitories of four to six people each, priced at 15 euros per night. Sheets are provided, and the hostel offers laundry facilities, a garden, and secure bike storage in the rear garden for the handful of cyclists passing through. Pets are welcome for a small supplement. Evening meals are available for 12 euros, with a vegetarian menu option, and breakfast is offered for 5 euros. The hostel opens for the season from 1 April through 30 November, with check-in from 13:00 and doors closing at 22:00.
