Albergue de Peregrinos de La Isla

The pilgrim hostel in La Isla occupies a converted schoolhouse, giving it the solid, functional character typical of rural Asturian public buildings. La Isla is a small coastal village in the municipality of Colunga, sitting along the Camino de Santiago del Norte, the coastal route that follows the Cantabrian shoreline across northern Spain.

The albergue is municipally owned and exclusively for pilgrims, with 22 beds in a single shared dormitory. The price of 10.50 euros includes breakfast, which is good value along this stretch of the coast. A free kitchen, washer and dryer, and bicycle shelter are available on site. Worth noting: the hostel underwent a management change in 2025 under the care of a hospitalero named Pedro, so the experience here may feel somewhat freshly organized.

The hostel sits about 900 meters from the main road, down a lane off the turnoff, so pilgrims arriving tired should factor in that final stretch. Registration runs from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM, and the hostel closes at 8:30 PM, which are relatively tight windows compared to some albergues on the Norte. The village itself is quiet, close to the sea, and typical of the green, cliff-edged coastline that makes this camino one of the more scenically rewarding routes in northern Spain.
