Albergue de Peregrinos de Cizur Menor (Navarra)

The village of Cizur Menor sits just five kilometres from Pamplona and has been welcoming pilgrims on the Camino Francés for centuries. This albergue occupies a former commanderie of the Knights of Malta, the military-religious order that established a hospital here in the twelfth century to care for pilgrims travelling to Santiago de Compostela. The order's presence along this stretch of the Camino was part of a broader network of protection and hospitality it maintained across medieval Navarre.

The hostel provides 27 beds across two dormitories, a self-catering kitchen, and two bathrooms. It is run under the auspices of the Order of Malta, maintaining a direct continuity with the commanderie's original purpose of serving those on the road.

Standing immediately beside the hostel is the Romanesque church of San Miguel, built by the Order in the twelfth century. Its architecture is modest but well preserved, and the building retains the austere character typical of ecclesiastical construction from that period in Navarre. On Sunday evenings at 18:30, a pilgrim mass is celebrated here, followed by a blessing for those continuing the way. For pilgrims arriving after the long morning stage out of Pamplona, or preparing to push on toward the Sierra del Perdón, the combination of a historic setting and an active spiritual tradition makes this one of the more distinctive stopping points in this early section of the route.
