Private Albergue
The Albergue Santa María de los Ángeles is a pilgrim hostel run by the Conventual Franciscans, opened in 2025 and located a short walk from Astorga's cathedral. It is one of the newer additions to the town's pilgrim infrastructure, established as a formal expression of Franciscan hospitality along the Camino de Santiago.
The hostel is exclusively for pilgrims and reflects a distinctly religious character. Guests are welcomed within a Christian-Franciscan framework that includes a Pilgrim's Mass and blessing, setting it apart from more secular albergues in the area. The friary community, led by Fray Jordi Alcaraz, manages the welcome personally.
Accommodation is in shared rooms for two or three people, with 60 places across 30 bedrooms. The hostel is accessible to people with reduced mobility and offers a kitchen, refrigerator, microwave, covered bicycle storage, and credential stamps for two euros. Reservations are accepted by WhatsApp up to a week in advance, and the hostel operates from April through November, closing on Tuesdays. Check-in runs from 13:30 to 22:00.
Astorga itself has been a significant stop for pilgrims since the medieval period, serving as a crossroads where the Camino Francés meets routes from Portugal and the south. The town's cathedral and the Palacio Episcopal, designed by Antoni Gaudí, are both within easy reach of the hostel.
