A municipal pilgrim hostel in Tardajos run by volunteer hospitaleros from the Association of Friends of the Camino de Madrid, offering 18 dormitory beds on a donation basis from mid-March to mid-November.
Donativo
Tardajos sits on the Camino Francés roughly 12 kilometres west of Burgos, and this small municipal hostel serves as a welcome rest stop for pilgrims who have either pushed through from the city or are easing into their first full day on the meseta. The village itself has a quiet, lived-in character, with a modest church and the kind of unhurried rhythm that makes it a natural place to slow down after the bustle of Burgos.
The hostel is run by volunteer hospitaleros from the Association of Friends of the Camino de Madrid, the same organisation behind the route of that name. It operates on a donativo basis, meaning pilgrims pay what they can, and a donation breakfast is also available. The setup is straightforward: 18 beds across three shared dormitories, exclusive to pilgrims, with a bicycle shelter for those on the cycling variant of the route.
Being municipally owned and volunteer-managed, the atmosphere tends to be personal and community-minded rather than institutional. Reservations are not accepted, so arrival is first-come, first-served. The hostel opens from mid-March through mid-November, with doors opening at 3 in the afternoon and closing at 10 in the evening. For questions ahead of arrival, the first phone number listed reaches the hospitalero directly, while the second connects to the Tardajos Town Hall.
