A municipal pilgrim hostel on the outskirts of Mansilla de las Mulas, open from March to November, offering 28 beds across two shared rooms at €7 per night while the historic albergue in the old town undergoes rehabilitation.
Municipal Albergue
The municipal pilgrim hostel in Mansilla de las Mulas is a temporary facility that opened in 2024, set up while the town's historic albergue in the old quarter undergoes rehabilitation. It sits at the entrance to town along the Avenida Picos de Europa, making it easy to find after the long flat approach across the Castilian meseta.
Run by the Association of Friends of the Mansilla Way under municipal ownership, the hostel is open exclusively to pilgrims and operates from early March through to early November. It offers 28 beds across two shared dormitories at seven euros a night, with practical amenities including a washing machine, dryer, fridge, microwave, and a bicycle shed. Reservations are not accepted, so it operates on a first-come, first-served basis from 1pm.
Mansilla de las Mulas itself is worth a look. The town preserves a significant stretch of its medieval walls, some of the best-surviving in the province of León, and the old centre retains the feel of a genuine working market town rather than a place shaped primarily by pilgrimage traffic. For walkers on the Camino Francés, it marks the last stop before León, roughly 18 kilometres ahead, and offers a quieter alternative to spending the night in the city.
