Albergue de Peregrinos Pedro Solìs

The Pedro Solís Pilgrim Hostel is a municipally owned albergue in the centre of Avilés, operated by the Astur-Galician Pilgrim Association and exclusively available to those walking or cycling a pilgrimage route. It has been welcoming pilgrims since 1997 and is due to undergo renovation in 2026.

The hostel offers 56 beds in a single shared dormitory at 10 euros per night, making it one of the more spacious pilgrim accommodations on the Camino del Norte and connecting routes through Asturias. Volunteers from the Astur-Galician Association staff the hostel, which adds a personal, community-run feel that distinguishes it from commercial options. Pilgrims can also pick up a credential here for one euro if they need to start or replace one.

Facilities are practical and well suited to the needs of walkers: a free kitchen with microwave and fridge, washing machines and dryers, disposable sheets, and a secure bicycle shelter. Registration opens at 13:00 (16:00 in the winter months from November to March), and the hostel closes at 22:00, or 20:00 in winter.

Avilés itself is worth some time. The medieval old town, centred on the arcaded Calle Galiana and the Plaza de España, is one of the better-preserved historic centres in Asturias. The city also draws visitors to the Centro Niemeyer, a striking cultural complex on the waterfront designed by Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer and completed in 2011, one of his last major works.
