About this property

The Pilgrims' Shelter Servants of Mary sits on a site with a long history of welcoming travellers. Almost a thousand years ago, the hospital of San Feliz stood here, one of several medieval pilgrim hospitals that made Astorga an important stopping point on the Camino Francés. That tradition of hospitality has continued with few interruptions, even if the buildings themselves have changed considerably over the centuries.

The current structure served as a convent until 2004, when it was repurposed as a pilgrim hostel. It opened in 2006 under the management of the Association of Friends of the Camino de Astorga and is run by volunteer hospitaleros. With 156 beds spread across shared rooms ranging from two to thirty people, it is one of the larger albergues in the city, and it operates year-round, which matters for pilgrims travelling outside the main season.

Facilities are practical and well-equipped for the needs of walkers: a free kitchen with microwave and refrigerator, washer and dryer, and secure bicycle storage. The location is well-placed at the entrance to the town, making it easy to find after a long day on the route. At eight euros a night for a dorm bed, it represents straightforward, no-frills accommodation with a genuinely deep-rooted connection to the pilgrimage tradition.
