Albergue de São Miguel

The São Miguel Hostel occupies a granite building with the solid, rural character typical of this stretch of the Minho coast. It sits in the former Campo de São Miguel in Marinhas, a small settlement within the Esposende municipality, close enough to the Atlantic that pilgrims walking the Coastal Way will feel the proximity of the sea. Cafes, restaurants, a pharmacy, a church, and a first aid post are all within a few minutes on foot.

The hostel is run by volunteers from the Portuguese Red Cross, which sets it apart from most pilgrim accommodation. The staff are trained first responders, meaning they can treat blisters, sprains, and other trail injuries on the spot, not just check you in. They can also advise on upcoming stages and help find alternative beds if the hostel is full.

The building was fully renovated in 2020 and includes dormitories, a living room, a kitchen, bathrooms, changing rooms, and an isolation room. A spacious outdoor area has tables for eating outside. The nightly rate covers a pack of disposable sheets and pillowcases as well as a set of personal hygiene products, which reduces what walkers need to carry. A washing machine, dryer, microwave, refrigerator, coffee machines, computers, and free internet are all available. Pilgrims who need to start or replace their Credential can purchase one here, along with scallop shells, towels, and blankets.
