Open from late March through early November, the hostel offers 24 beds across four dormitories sleeping 4, 6, and 10 people, with a nightly rate of 15 euros. As of 2025, it is under new management, with Angie and Javier now running the place. The hostel offers a community dinner for 15 euros and breakfast for 5 euros, making it a convenient option for pilgrims who arrive hungry after the long, exposed walk across the meseta. Laundry facilities, covered bicycle storage, and a garden are also available, some at extra cost.
Hornillos del Camino itself is worth a moment's attention. The village has served pilgrims for centuries and retains the quiet, medieval feel of a place that exists almost entirely in relationship to the Camino. It has few services beyond what pilgrims need, which gives it a particular atmosphere that many walkers find memorable. El Alfar sits at the entrance to the village, making it one of the first stops pilgrims reach after crossing the wide, windswept plateau that defines this stretch of the route.
