El Peregrino Najerino is a small private hostel in Nájera, sitting at the entrance to town on the Camino de Rientas and around 700 metres from the old quarter. It opened in 2015 and has been exclusively serving pilgrims since then, with a change of management in 2024 bringing it under the care of José Luis and Jenny.
The hostel is modest in scale, with 28 beds across two dormitory rooms, priced at 14 euros for a bunk or 15 for a lower bed. Reservations are accepted via WhatsApp, which is useful given the limited capacity.
A standout feature is the community dinner for 10 euros, prepared with a Colombian menu, offering something a little different from the standard pilgrim fare found along the Camino Francés. Breakfast is available from 6:00, handy for pilgrims wanting an early start. There is also a foot massage service offered on a donation basis, a welcome touch after the long stretch from Logroño or the climb down from the Azofra plateau. The hostel is accessible for people with reduced mobility and provides laundry facilities, sheets, and pillowcases.
Nájera itself is worth a pause. The town was once the capital of the Kingdom of Navarre and is home to the Monastery of Santa María la Real, where the kings of Navarre and Castile are buried, making it one of the more historically significant stops on this section of the route.
