Albergue Gaia is a small, pilgrim-only private hostel in Mansilla de las Mulas offering 16 beds across two shared rooms, with amenities including laundry, a garden, massage service, and donation-based breakfast, open year-round with limited closures.
Private Albergue
Albergue Gaia sits at the entrance to Mansilla de las Mulas, making it one of the first stops pilgrims reach after the long stretch from Burgos across the Castilian meseta. Run by Marisa and Carlos since 2015, it is a small, privately managed hostel with just two shared rooms and 16 beds, reserved exclusively for pilgrims walking the Camino de Santiago.
The albergue operates year-round with only a handful of closures, and reservations are required in low season. At 14 euros a night, it includes use of a washing machine and dryer, a microwave and fridge, and a donation-based breakfast. Pets are welcome, there is a garden, and a massage service is available for an extra charge, which many walkers arriving after days on the meseta will find appealing.
Mansilla de las Mulas itself is worth a moment's attention. A former medieval stronghold, it retains stretches of its 12th-century walls, some of the best-preserved Roman and medieval fortifications along the entire French Way. The town sits on the Rio Esla and has long served as a waypoint for pilgrims heading toward Leon, roughly 18 kilometers further west.
