Albergue Guiana

Albergue Guiana sits in one of the best-positioned spots in Ponferrada for pilgrims passing through on the Camino Francés. The building is within a couple of minutes' walk of the Templar Castle, one of the most impressive medieval fortresses on the entire route, as well as the Basilica of Nuestra Señora de la Encina and the Museum of Bierzo. Arriving here, walkers find themselves in the thick of a city with genuine historical weight, not just a waypoint.

The albergue itself offers a range of accommodation across three floors. The lower floors have dormitory rooms sleeping six or seven people, with lockers and shared bathrooms. The top floor steps up in comfort with private rooms featuring en-suite bathrooms, flat-screen TVs, and free toiletries, as well as two studio units with small kitchen areas. This mix makes it workable for solo pilgrims on a budget and those who want a bit more privacy after a long stage.

Communal spaces include a TV lounge, a dining area with vending machines, and a games room. There is also a laundry room, which tends to be well-used after the long stretch through the Bierzo valley. Cyclists doing the Camino by bike will appreciate the dedicated garage with free secure parking and a maintenance area with tools for cleaning and repairs.
