Albergue Jacques de Molay

The Jacques de Molay hostel sits in the small village of Terradillos de los Templarios, a settlement whose very name reflects the medieval presence of the Knights Templar in this stretch of the Camino Francés. The hostel takes its name from Jacques de Molay, the last Grand Master of the Knights Templar, a figure whose story remains one of the most dramatic in medieval history. Arrested in 1307 during the sweeping persecution of the Templar order ordered by King Philip IV of France, de Molay endured years of imprisonment and torture before being burned at the stake in Paris in 1314. According to historical accounts, he used his final moments to curse both the Pope and the King, declaring they would follow him to death within the year. Both men died before the year was out, which cemented the legend of the so-called "Templar curse" in popular memory.

The hostel is a private, pilgrim-only albergue open from March through November, with 50 beds spread across 8 dormitory rooms at 15 euros per night. It offers the practical essentials that matter most on a long day's walk: a bar and restaurant with dinner available for 14 euros and breakfast for 4, laundry facilities, individual lockers, a bicycle shelter, and a garden. Reservations are recommended, ideally the day before arrival.

Terradillos itself is a quiet agricultural village in the Palencia province, and for pilgrims on the Meseta this stop often comes as a welcome break in an otherwise exposed and sparsely populated stretch of the route.
