Albergue Juvenil Roberto Frassinelli

The Roberto Frassinelli Youth Hostel occupies a beautifully renovated colonial-style mansion right on the beach at Ribadesella, making it one of the more distinctive places to sleep along the Camino del Norte. The building itself is worth a look regardless of whether you stay here, reflecting the architectural legacy of the Asturian indianos, emigrants who made fortunes in the Americas and returned to build grand homes along the Cantabrian coast.

The hostel is owned by the Principality of Asturias and managed by Surf Camp Ribadesella, which shapes its character considerably. In summer it fills with surf school groups, so pilgrims planning to stay in July or August should check availability well in advance. Outside those months it functions as a reliable year-round option, closing only in January.

A Youth Hostel membership card is required to stay here. This can be obtained digitally through the Spanish Youth Hostel Network (reaj.com) or at the hostel itself on arrival. Dormitories sleep six, with triple-stacked bunk beds, and the nightly rate of 27 euros includes breakfast, which is served from 6:30am, early enough for pilgrims wanting an early start. Note that backpacks are not permitted inside the hostel and must be left in a designated external storage room. The hostel operates with a door code, so there is no formal closing time.
