Albergue Liberanos Domine

Rabé de las Calzadas is a small village on the Camino Francés, sitting just a few kilometres west of Burgos, and the Liberanos Domine is one of its most characterful places to stop. The name, Latin for "Deliver us, O Lord," sets the tone: this is a pilgrim albergue with a sense of purpose, run by a hospitalera known to guests as Tinita, who has been welcoming walkers here since the hostel opened in 2009.

The albergue offers 24 beds across four rooms, each with between four and eight beds, at 15 euros a night. It is open to pilgrims only, which keeps the atmosphere oriented toward the road and the people on it. A communal dinner is available for 10 euros, and breakfast for 3, making it easy to settle in for the evening rather than hunting for food in a village this size.

One of the more memorable aspects of staying here is the proximity to a local convent where pilgrims can attend vespers, receive a blessing, and be given a medal of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal. For those walking with a spiritual intention, it is a quietly meaningful gesture, the kind of thing that distinguishes a stop on the Camino from simply checking into accommodation.

The hostel is accessible for those with reduced mobility and permits pets, which is practical for the growing number of pilgrims walking with dogs. It operates from March through October.
