Albergue de peregrinos de San Bol

The San Bol albergue sits in one of the more quietly striking spots on the Camino Francés: a small, shaded valley beside the Arroyo de San Bol stream, tucked 250 metres off the main road through a well-marked turnoff. The surrounding poplar grove and the sound of running water make it a genuine refuge from the exposed meseta, which pilgrims will have been crossing for some time by this point.

The hostel has been welcoming pilgrims since 1988, making it one of the longer-established stops in this stretch of Burgos province. It is municipally owned but privately managed, and the operation is intentionally simple: ten beds in a shared dormitory, one private room with two bunk beds, and a kitchen open until 8 PM. Solar panels provide hot water and electricity. A wood-burning stove makes the place viable into the cooler shoulder months, and the hostel runs from April through October.

A community dinner is offered at 7 PM for thirteen euros, which matters here because San Bol is not a town with other options. Laundry is handled through an arrangement with the Santa Brígida hostel in Hontanas, collected the following day. The isolation that makes the setting peaceful also means pilgrims should plan accordingly for provisions and timing. For those who do stop, the picnic area in the poplars beside the stream is one of the better rest spots on this part of the route.
