The Stork's Nest Hostel (Albergue Nido de Cigüeña) has an unusual origin story for a Camino pilgrim hostel: it was built by Russian pilgrims who had walked the route and wanted to give something back to the trail community. Opened in 2014 and run by Tatiana, it operates exclusively for pilgrims and sits in Nájera's old town, a short distance from the monastery and the old quarter's medieval streets.
The hostel is small and personal in scale, with 15 dormitory beds spread across rooms that can also be booked as private spaces. Bunk beds and low beds are available, and a sleeping bag is required. Private double, triple, and quadruple rooms offer more flexibility for those travelling in groups or wanting extra space.
The Russian connection means the hostel is one of the few on the Camino Francés where staff speak Russian alongside Spanish and English, which is a practical bonus for the growing number of Eastern European pilgrims on the route. Reservations are accepted, though the hostel holds them only until 3:00 PM unless you let them know in advance that you are arriving later. The season runs from April through early October.
