The Albergue Puerta de Nájera sits just across the bridge over the Najerilla River in the heart of Nájera's old town, making it one of the most conveniently placed pilgrim hostels on this stretch of the Camino Francés. The town itself was a significant royal capital during the medieval Kingdom of Navarre, and the nearby Monastery of Santa María la Real holds the tombs of Navarrese and Castilian royalty, making Nájera a stop worth more than a quick pass-through.
Opened in 2012 and run by Maite and Javier, the hostel is privately managed and offers a mix of shared dormitories and private rooms, with dormitories sleeping between two and six people using a combination of bunk and low beds. It is not exclusively for pilgrims but is clearly set up with them in mind, and the range of amenities, including individual lockers, a washer and dryer, and covered bicycle storage, reflects that focus. The smaller dormitory options make it a reasonable choice for pilgrims who want a bit more space without stepping up to a full private room.
The hostel operates seasonally from mid-March to mid-November, accepting walk-ins as well as reservations. Check-in begins at 13:00 with doors closing at 22:00. For those traveling outside the main season, group bookings can be arranged year-round.
