The Angeiras Beach Hostel occupies the upper floor of the Mercado de Angeiras, a historic market building in the coastal village of Lavra, just north of Matosinhos. The market below has long been a gathering point for the local community, and the building's conversion into accommodation gives the hostel a grounding in the area's everyday life rather than the generic feel of purpose-built lodging.
With 70 beds spread across several dormitories, the hostel opened in October 2025 and is set up to serve a mixed crowd: surfers drawn to the Atlantic break at Angeiras Beach, pilgrims walking the Caminho da Costa toward Santiago de Compostela, and visitors exploring this stretch of the Portuguese coast. Practical amenities include a shared kitchen, laundry facilities, and bike storage, making it well suited to those traveling light or on a longer journey.
Angeiras itself is a small fishing and beach community with a quieter character than the urban stretches of the Caminho to the south. The beach is known for surf and for the rocky tidal pools that extend along the shoreline. For pilgrims, the hostel sits directly on or very close to the coastal route, offering a convenient overnight stop before continuing north toward Vila do Conde and beyond.
