Donativo Casa de Peregrinos Colombres

This pilgrim house in Colombres is a privately run donativo hostel, meaning there is no set fee for a night's stay. Guests are welcome to leave a contribution in the donation box if they wish, but nothing is required. The hosts open their home to pilgrims walking the Camino del Norte and similar coastal routes, offering space for up to nine people across two rooms.

What sets this place apart from a standard albergue is the sense of genuine hospitality that shapes how it operates. Arrivals happen at 2:30 PM each day (except Saturdays, when the hostel is closed, and throughout August). In the evening, hosts prepare a communal plant-based dinner at 7:30 PM, suitable for vegetarians and vegans. Those with celiac disease should flag this in advance so a gluten-free option can be arranged.

The house has a washing machine available for communal laundry runs, though pilgrims arriving after 6:00 PM will need to wash by hand. There are three bathrooms with two showers, a common area both inside and outside, WiFi, a small library in several languages, board games, and a piano.

A few practical things worth knowing before you arrive: reservations are accepted but only up to two days ahead. Pilgrims must carry a valid credential to stay. Backpack transport services are not accepted at this address; if you use one, you will need to redirect your bag elsewhere in Colombres or on to Llanes. Dogs are welcome but must sleep outside, and prior notice is appreciated. The hosts also have a young baby in the house, which is worth keeping in mind for lighter sleepers.

The hostel is open from April through October (sometimes from March), every day except Saturday.
