Albergue Villamayor de Monjardín

The albergue in Villamayor de Monjardín sits on Calle Mayor in the heart of this quiet hilltop village on the Camino Francés, roughly halfway between Estella and Los Arcos. The village itself is worth a moment's attention: it sits beneath the ruins of the Castillo de San Esteban de Deyo, a 10th-century Navarrese fortress that once marked the frontier between Christian and Moorish territories. The Romanesque church of San Andrés, with its notable carved portal, stands nearby and has been welcoming pilgrims for centuries.

The hostel opened in 2013 and is run privately by Javier and Ana. It offers 20 places in shared dormitories across three rooms, plus one private double room with its own bathroom. Pricing is straightforward: dormitory beds run 14 euros, or 18 euros with breakfast included, while the private room goes for 40 euros. The kitchen is free to use and comes equipped with a microwave and refrigerator, and the hosts offer a communal dinner for 12 euros, which can be a welcome option given how few services exist in this small village. Breakfast is available separately for 4 euros.

The hostel accepts reservations and is open from March through early November, with check-in between noon and 8 in the evening. Lockers with keys are available for an extra charge, and there is a washer and dryer on site. It is open to non-pilgrims but is oriented toward those walking the route.
