About This Stage
A return to genuine coastal walking as the route heads west from Aviles. The terrain is moderately hilly with clifftop sections and some inland detours. The Iglesia de San Martin, declared a Cultural Interest Asset (BIC) in 1999, is considered one of the finest examples of Asturian coastal church architecture.
The route passes through Salinas (with its famous beach and the Museo de las Anclas) before continuing along the coast. The Castillo de San Martin overlooks the mouth of the Rio Nalon, though it is privately owned.
Muros de Nalon is a small coastal town at the Nalon River estuary. The nearby Playa del Aguilar is one of Asturias' finest beaches. A short detour leads to the spectacular Playa del Silencio, consistently rated among the best beaches in Spain. The albergue is close to the waterfront.
Terrain: Steep coastal climbs, cliff paths, forest trails, rural lanes
