About San Martín del Camino
San Martin del Camino sits in the province of Leon on the northern Camino variant, between Villadangos del Paramo and Hospital de Orbigo. The Camino runs along the main road through the town.
The town is dedicated to Saint Martin of Tours, the 4th-century Roman soldier and bishop whose cult spread early across Christian Europe, and whose feast in November traditionally marks the end of the agricultural year. The parish church carries his name. The town grew along the pilgrim route as it crossed the paramo, and has been a Camino overnight stop on this variant since the Middle Ages.
San Martin has reasonable services for the Camino. There are albergues including the municipal Albergue Vieira and private albergues, bar-restaurants, a small shop, and a bus stop with connections to Leon and Astorga. There is no pharmacy. Most pilgrims overnight here before pushing on to Hospital de Orbigo.
