About La Faba
La Faba sits in the province of Leon at around 900 metres altitude on the steep climb from Las Herrerias to O Cebreiro. The Camino runs through the heart of the small mountain village along the climbing path. The setting is forested mountainside, the air notably cooler and damper than the Valcarce valley below.
La Faba is dedicated to San Andres and has been a small mountain settlement on the Camino for centuries. Its modern significance for pilgrims comes from the German Confraternity of Saint James, which operates a parish-style albergue in the old village rectory. The Confraternity albergue has built a reputation for its calm atmosphere, communal pilgrim dinners, and traditional approach to hospitality. The village otherwise remains a small mountain farming settlement.
Services in La Faba are pilgrim-focused but limited. There are albergues including the German Confraternity parish albergue and private albergues, a bar-restaurant, and a small shop. There is no pharmacy or ATM.
