Azofra

Azofra is a small village in La Rioja on the Camino Francés, between Nájera and Cirueña. For pilgrims, it is a useful stop soon after Nájera and a good place to pause before a more open, service-light stretch.

The village has been part of the Camino for centuries and has a long tradition of supporting pilgrims. Its history is tied to the route west from Nájera, local farming, and the wine-growing landscape of La Rioja. Azofra is small, but it has a classic Camino feel, with quiet streets and a steady flow of walkers passing through.

Azofra has useful pilgrim services for its size. It has albergues, food options, cafés or bars, and basic facilities. It is not as fully serviced as Nájera or Santo Domingo de la Calzada, but it works well for a break or overnight stop.

The key practical point is the section after Azofra. The walk toward Cirueña is around 9 km without towns along the way, so pilgrims should carry enough water and food, especially in hot weather.
