About This Stage
The route crosses from La Rioja into Castilla y Leon, entering the vast landscapes of the northern Meseta. The terrain is open and agricultural, with long views across cereal fields towards the distant mountains. The walking is gentle with minimal elevation change.
The stage passes through several small villages including Granon (marking the regional boundary) and Redecilla del Camino. The settlements become smaller and more widely spaced as you enter Castilla, giving a sense of the immense scale of the Meseta that lies ahead.
Belorado is a pleasant small town at the foot of the Sierra de la Demanda with good services, a ruined castle on the hill above, and several churches. The town has a comfortable range of accommodation and restaurants. Cave dwellings carved into the hillside above town add an unusual architectural feature.
