About This Stage
A long stage crossing from Navarra into La Rioja, Spain's most famous wine region. The route passes through Torres del Rio (with its octagonal Romanesque church) and the hilltop town of Viana before descending to cross the Ebro River into Logrono.
The walking crosses increasingly vine-covered terrain as you enter La Rioja. Long exposed sections through cereal and vine country characterise the first half, while the approach to Logrono follows suburban roads and the river. The crossing into La Rioja is marked by the regional boundary sign near Viana.
Logrono is the capital of La Rioja and a city built around wine culture. The Calle Laurel is one of Spain's great tapas streets, with dozens of bars each specialising in a single dish. The cathedral, old town, and riverside parks offer plenty to explore. Full services and accommodation at all levels are available.
Terrain: Exposed agricultural paths, vineyard trails, river crossing, urban streets
