About Los Arcos
Los Arcos is a historic town in Navarra on the Camino Francés, between Villamayor de Monjardín and Sansol. For pilgrims, it is one of the main overnight stops on this section, especially after the long, exposed walk from Villamayor de Monjardín. The town’s name means “the bows” or “the arches,” and local tradition links it to the archers who fought for King Sancho IV during the War of the Three Sanchos.
The town has a medieval history and became important because of its position on the Camino and near the old frontier between Navarra and La Rioja. Its historic centre still has a classic Camino feel, with old streets, arcades, stone buildings, and the impressive Church of Santa María as the main landmark.
Los Arcos is a full-service stop for pilgrims. It has albergues, hotels, restaurants, cafés, supermarkets, pharmacies, ATMs, laundries, and other useful services. After the quieter villages and open countryside before town, it is a good place to rest, resupply, eat properly, and stay overnight.
The must-see in town is the Church of Santa María. From the outside it already looks impressive, but the interior is the real highlight, with rich decoration, a large altarpiece, and one of the most memorable church interiors on this part of the Camino.
