About Bercianos del Real Camino
Bercianos del Real Camino is a small village in the province of Leon, on the flat meseta of Tierra de Campos. It sits on the southern variant of the Camino, the more popular of the two routes that split at Calzada del Coto. The village is mostly working farms and traditional adobe houses.
There is little monumental heritage in Bercianos. The parish church of San Salvador and the smaller hermitage of the Virgen de la Perala are the only notable buildings. The village's significance on the Camino is as a quiet, traditional stop with a particularly well-regarded parish albergue rather than as a destination in its own right.
Services are limited but pilgrim-focused. The parish donativo albergue, run from the old rectory by volunteer hospitaleros, has dormitory beds and serves a communal dinner that is one of the better-known on this stretch. There are two private albergues and one small hotel. A single bar-restaurant operates in the village. The shop keeps limited hours. There is no pharmacy, no ATM, and no medical service.
