About Castildelgado

Castildelgado is a very small village in Burgos province on the Camino Francés, between Redecilla del Camino and Viloria de Rioja. For pilgrims, it is a quiet passing point after entering Castilla y León, rather than a major overnight or resupply stop.

The village was once known as Villa de Pun, and its current name is linked to Francisco Delgado López, a local figure who became Bishop of Jaén and Lugo and was involved in the Counter-Reformation period. The main sight is the Church of San Pedro, a late Gothic church with a slender tower, Baroque altarpieces, and connections to Francisco Delgado.

Pilgrim services in Castildelgado are limited. There may be some accommodation or food options nearby, but this is not a place to rely on for a supermarket, pharmacy, ATM, or a wide choice of cafés. Most pilgrims continue through to Viloria de Rioja, Villamayor del Río, or Belorado for more dependable services.

If the Church of San Pedro is open, it is worth a quick look before continuing. Otherwise, Castildelgado is best appreciated as a quiet village stop on the open road toward Belorado.
