About La Laguna de Castilla

Laguna de Castilla sits in the province of Leon at around 1,150 metres altitude on the high climb to O Cebreiro. The Camino runs through the heart of the small mountain village. The setting is mountain pasture and forest, with views back down across the Valcarce valley.

Laguna de Castilla takes its name from a small high-altitude pond or laguna near the village, and from its position as the last settlement in the historical Kingdom of Leon (and the modern autonomous community of Castilla y Leon) before crossing into Galicia. The village is small and traditional, built of mountain stone. A few hundred metres beyond the village, a stone marker beside the path indicates the crossing into Galicia, the final major regional boundary of the Camino Frances.

Services in Laguna de Castilla are limited. There is an albergue, the Albergue La Escuela, and a bar-restaurant. There is no pharmacy and no ATM.
