About Rabanal del Camino

Rabanal del Camino is a small mountain village that has been revived largely through the Camino pilgrimage. The village sits at the foot of the climb towards the Cruz de Ferro and the highest point of the Camino Frances.

The restored Templar-era Church of La Asuncion hosts occasional services, and the Benedictine monastery of San Salvador de Monte Irago holds evening vespers (Gregorian chant) open to pilgrims. There are several albergues, a couple of restaurants, and basic services.

Rabanal is a tranquil and atmospheric stop, and the vespers service is a memorable experience. From here, the climb to Foncebadon and the Cruz de Ferro begins in earnest.
