About Trabadelo

Trabadelo sits in the province of Leon, deeper into the Valcarce valley, west of Pereje. The Camino runs through the heart of the village along the riverside road. The setting is the steep wooded slopes of the valley closing in on either side as the route climbs toward the Galician mountains.

The village name has medieval origins; one explanation traces it to the Latin trabaculum (small beams), a reference to early forest clearings here. Trabadelo has been a Camino settlement since the Middle Ages, and disputes over tolls and pilgrim revenues between Villafranca and O Cebreiro hospices recur in medieval documents about the village. The parish church of San Nicolas anchors the village.

Services in Trabadelo are reasonable for a Valcarce village. There are albergues including the municipal albergue and private albergues, bars, restaurants, and a small shop. There is no pharmacy or ATM.
