Akerreta

Akerreta, also written as Aquerreta, is a small village in Navarra on the Camino Francés, between Larrasoaña and Zuriain.

The village sits on a rise above the Arga Valley, with good views of the surrounding countryside. It belongs to the municipality of Esteribar and is one of the quiet rural settlements pilgrims pass through on the way toward Pamplona.

Akerreta’s main historic sight is the Church of the Transfiguration of the Lord. The church has medieval origins, although much of its current appearance comes from later changes, especially from the 18th century. Parts of the older church remain, including the tower and baptismal font.

For pilgrims today, Akerreta is a peaceful place to pass through or stay if accommodation is available. It is known for its restored stone houses and rural setting, but services are limited. Pilgrims should not rely on finding shops or multiple food options here.

The village is best treated as a calm Camino stop with good views and a small amount of local history before the route continues down toward Zuriain, Irotz, Trinidad de Arre, and Pamplona.
