Ferrol → Pontedeume

A business park on the edge of Narón where the Camino Inglés leaves Ferrol's streets and picks up a waterfront path along the ría. Not a village, but a handy place for a bed if you land late or want to shorten the first stage.

Riverside district of Narón best known for San Martiño de Xubia, a Romanesque monastery church documented back to 977 that later passed to the abbey of Cluny. Watch for the red fish waymarks of the San Andrés de Teixido route here too.

The waterfront parish of Neda, home to the midpoint albergue and a church whose Tudor-era Christ arrived by ship from England around 1550. The natural place to split the long opening stage from Ferrol.

A riverside town at the head of the Ferrol ría, famed for its bread since Felipe II set up royal biscuit bakeries here in 1558 to supply the navy. Its arcaded Rúa Real and clock tower sit right on the Camino.

Shipbuilding town on the south shore of the Ferrol ría, long tied to the ASTANO yards. The Camino drops into its centre after a hillside stretch with ría views, then climbs into the low hills toward Pontedeum

Roadside hamlet in the parish of Laraxe, just before one of the more hazardous stretches of the Camino Inglés. Refuel here, then take real care on the narrow shoulders and the busy N-651 crossing that follow.

Beach town at the mouth of the Eume, facing Pontedeume across the river. Its sheltered, pine-backed Praia da Magdalena is a tempting detour just before the long bridge that ends stage one.
