Neda

Neda grew up around the Belelle river, whose unusually pure water powered dozens of mills and gave the town its lasting reputation. In 1558 Felipe II chose Neda for royal bakeries producing ship's biscuit for the Spanish navy, taking advantage of the river and the town's easy link to the port of Ferrol. The bread tradition never faded, and Neda still calls itself Galicia's wheat capital.

The Camino follows the arcaded Rúa Real past the clock tower and the town hall, through the most atmospheric part of town. The Gothic church of San Nicolás dates from the 14th century. Every September the Festa do Pan fills the waterfront with local bakers and is a declared festival of Galician tourist interest. For a longer detour, the Fervenza do Belelle, a waterfall of around 45 metres, lies up the valley.

Neda has shops, bars and a train station, so it's a good place to restock. Leaving town, the route climbs steadily through hillside hamlets with fine views back over the ría before dropping into Fene.
