A deceptively tough short stage with an extraordinary amount of elevation change for its distance. The 1,362 metres of climbing in just 16.5 kilometres means the route is constantly going up and down through the hilly terrain between Vigo and Redondela. The path crosses a series of steep ridges south of the Vigo estuary.
The route navigates out of Vigo through urban and suburban areas before entering hillier terrain with forest paths and rural lanes. Views over the Ria de Vigo appear at several high points. The constant climbing and descending makes this stage feel significantly longer than its distance suggests.
Redondela is a pleasant town on the Vigo estuary where the Coastal route merges with the Central route for the final stages to Santiago. The town is recognisable by its two railway viaducts crossing overhead. Good services, accommodation, and restaurants are available.
