Route Highlights
The Camino Portugués is the second most walked route to Santiago de Compostela, offering pilgrims a journey through Portugal's rich history and culture before crossing into Spanish Galicia.
Starting from the historic capital of Lisbon or the popular alternative start of Porto, pilgrims walk through rolling countryside, Atlantic coastline (on the coastal variant), and traditional Portuguese villages. The route showcases stunning Baroque churches, Roman bridges, and the unique Portuguese hospitality.
Many pilgrims choose to start from Porto, reducing the journey to approximately 240 km while still experiencing the essence of Portuguese pilgrim culture. The coastal variant from Porto offers dramatic ocean views and passes through beach towns like Póvoa de Varzim.
