About This Stage
The route crosses the undulating Gascon countryside to the hilltop town of Lectoure. The terrain is persistently rolling through a landscape of sunflower fields, vineyards, and mixed farming.
Lectoure sits on a ridge overlooking the Gers valley. The town was an important Gallic-Roman settlement, and the Musee Archeologique houses a remarkable collection of stone bull-head altars (tauroboliques) from the temple of Cybele. The cathedral of Saint-Gervais has a fine Gothic interior. The town is known for its production of blue dye from pastel (woad).
The Gascon countryside here produces Armagnac, foie gras, and some of the finest garlic in France.
Terrain: Rolling hills, agricultural paths, exposed sections, hilltop town approach
