About This Stage
The path passes through the heart of Gascony to Condom, passing the exquisite village of La Romieu. La Romieu's collegiate church and cloister, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, were founded in the 14th century by a local boy who became a cardinal. The village is also famous for its cat sculptures, which commemorate a medieval legend about a girl named Angeline who saved the town from a plague of rats.
Condom is the capital of Armagnac, France's oldest brandy. The Musee de l'Armagnac documents the distillation tradition. The Gothic cathedral and the bishops' palace dominate the town centre.
Look for the Pont d'Artigues on the approach, a Romanesque bridge listed by UNESCO as part of the Camino heritage.
Terrain: Rolling Gascon hills, agricultural paths, vineyard lanes, river valley approach
