About This Stage
The route crosses Armagnac country, passing through two of France's Plus Beaux Villages and across a UNESCO-listed pilgrim bridge. From Condom, the path crosses the Pont d'Artigues and continues through Montreal-du-Gers, a 13th-century bastide town with a fortified Gothic church.
The landscape is rolling agricultural country of vineyards, sunflowers, and mixed farming. The Armagnac region is warmer and drier than the highlands further east, with a distinctly southern French character.
Eauze was the ancient capital of the Elusates, a Gallic tribe. The Musee du Tresor d'Eauze displays a remarkable hoard of 28,000 Roman coins and jewellery discovered by a farmer in 1985.
Terrain: Rolling Gascon hills, agricultural paths, vineyard roads, exposed sections
