Aguçadoura

Agucadoura sits at the northern boundary of the Povoa de Varzim municipality, where the coastal landscape shifts from beach boardwalks to agricultural fields and traditional windmills. The Albergue de Agucadoura provides pilgrim accommodation with basic facilities.

The parish is known for its photogenic windmills perched on the dunes, similar to those in neighbouring Apulia. These mills were historically used for grinding corn and are now privately owned, some converted into holiday accommodation. The area also has a long tradition of seaweed (sargaco) harvesting, once a vital fertiliser for local farms.

Some Camino guides use Agucadoura as an alternative stage endpoint for pilgrims who want a shorter walk from Povoa de Varzim before the longer stretch to Esposende.
