About Arzúa

Arzúa is best known for its queso de Arzúa-Ulloa, a soft, creamy cheese made from local cow’s milk and one of Galicia’s most recognisable specialties. Shops and small stalls around town sell it fresh, and it is often enjoyed simply with bread and coffee. The surrounding countryside reflects this dairy heritage, with green pastures, small farms, and a steady rhythm of agricultural life.

By the time pilgrims reach Arzúa, the Camino has grown noticeably busier. The Camino Primitivo merges with the Francés earlier at Melide, and from here the flow of pilgrims thickens as everyone moves toward Santiago. It is the final stretch where the shared experience of the journey becomes most visible.

With around 38 kilometres remaining, the atmosphere in Arzúa is charged with anticipation. Most pilgrims break the final section into two days via O Pedrouzo, while others choose to walk straight through to Santiago. Conversations here often turn reflective, as people begin to process the journey and consider what awaits them at the end.
