About Azambuja

Azambuja is a small town in the Ribatejo region, notable for being one of the first places north of Lisbon with a dedicated municipal pilgrim albergue. This makes it an important stop on a stretch where pilgrim infrastructure is limited.

The town has basic services including cafes, a supermarket, a pharmacy, and a few hotels. The surrounding landscape is flat agricultural land in the Tagus valley, with vineyards and farmland stretching to the horizon.

Azambuja has a train station with connections to Lisbon and Santarem, providing transport flexibility. The long walk from here to Santarem (32.5 km) is one of the more challenging stages, with limited services and long stretches through open countryside.
