About Redecilla del Camino
Redecilla del Camino is a small village in Castilla y León on the Camino Francés, between Grañón and Castildelgado. For pilgrims, it marks the crossing from La Rioja into the province of Burgos, making it the first Castilian village on this part of the route.
The village has been linked to the Camino for centuries, with its name clearly showing its role on the pilgrimage road. Its main historic sight is the Church of Nuestra Señora de la Calle, which holds a remarkable Romanesque baptismal font. The font is often described as the standout feature of Redecilla, with carved decoration that makes it more memorable than the village’s small size might suggest.
For pilgrims today, Redecilla del Camino has basic services, including accommodation and food options. It is much smaller than Santo Domingo de la Calzada, so services are useful but limited. Most pilgrims treat it as a short stop, lunch break, or quieter overnight option before continuing through the small Burgos villages ahead.
The must-see is the baptismal font inside the Church of Nuestra Señora de la Calle. If the church is open, it is worth a quick visit before moving on toward Castildelgado, Viloria de Rioja, and Belorado.
