Salas is a historic Asturian town with a well-preserved medieval quarter dominated by the Torre de los Valdés castle tower. The town has a pre-Romanesque church (San Martin) and the Baroque Collegiate Church of Santa Maria la Mayor.
Pilgrims will find albergues, hotels, restaurants, cafes, a supermarket, and a pharmacy. The town has genuine character and traditional Asturian stone architecture.
Salas sits in a green valley surrounded by hills, and the Primitivo route becomes increasingly mountainous from here onwards. The local gastronomy, including cheese, cider, and hearty Asturian stews, is excellent.
