Vila do Conde is a historically significant town on the Camino Portugues Coastal route. Its imposing Mosteiro de Santa Clara overlooks the Ave River, and the remains of a Roman-era aqueduct stretch across the town.
The town has a municipal albergue, multiple cafes and restaurants, a supermarket, ATMs, and a pharmacy. It is also an important decision point for pilgrims, as a connecting route from here leads inland to Rates, where it joins the Central Camino Portugues.
Vila do Conde has a lively town centre with a weekly market and a tradition of bobbin lace-making. The metro also connects Vila do Conde to Porto, making it a possible alternative starting point for the Coastal route.
