Albergue El Pajar de Agés

Agés is a small village on the Camino Francés, sitting just a few kilometres before Burgos province's dramatic Atapuerca hills, where some of the oldest hominin remains in Europe have been found. The village itself is quiet and agricultural, and for most pilgrims it serves as a natural stopping point after the climb and descent from the Sierra de Atapuerca.

El Pajar de Agés is a municipal alberge that has been welcoming pilgrims since 2005. "El Pajar" means haystack or hayloft in Spanish, and the name reflects the rural character of the building and the village. It sits on the Calle del Medio, the central street that runs through Agés, making it easy to find for walkers arriving tired from the day's stage.

The hostel has 36 beds across two dormitories and is reserved exclusively for pilgrims. A bar and restaurant on site means there is no need to wander far for a meal or a drink at the end of the day, which matters in a village this size. Washing machines and dryers are available, and the hostel is accessible to people with reduced mobility. Reservations are required outside of peak season, and the facility operates from mid-March through to late December. As of 2025, the hostel is under new management.
