Albergue Espíritu Santo

The Albergue Espíritu Santo sits close to the center of Carrión de los Condes, one of the more historically significant stops on the Camino Francés. The hostel is run by the Daughters of Charity of Saint Vincent de Paul, a Catholic religious congregation founded in 17th-century France that has long maintained a presence in charitable and educational work across Spain.

The building itself has a practical history that pilgrims can still sense in the layout: the dormitory rooms occupy what were once school classrooms, giving them an unusual spaciousness and good natural light compared to many pilgrim hostels. The site was refurbished in 2006 and now offers 96 beds across seven rooms, each in a 12-bed configuration with low bunks.

A daily prayer service is held at 5:30 p.m., which is optional but part of the rhythm the sisters maintain here. The hostel is open year-round and accepts pilgrims exclusively, with no advance reservations taken. At 10 euros a night, it sits among the more affordable options on this stretch of the route. A kitchen, washing machines, and bicycle storage in the yard round out the practical amenities.

Carrión de los Condes itself is worth exploring before or after checking in. The town has medieval roots tied to the Castilian nobility and features several Romanesque churches, including Santa María del Camino and Santiago, both directly connected to the pilgrimage tradition.
